How the calculation works
The maths is deliberately transparent. Cigarettes: pack price divided by the number of cigarettes it holds, times your daily use. Disposables: unit price divided by how many days one lasts you. Refillable vapes: e-liquid cost over the period you state, plus consumables if you enter them. Pouches: tin price divided by its contents, times your daily use. The yearly and five-year projections apply that daily cost without assuming any price rise — so reality will more likely be above the figure than below it.
Formula: daily cost × 365 for a year, × 1,826 for five years. Cigarettes: (pack price ÷ cigarettes per pack) × cigarettes per day.
This calculator measures a spend, nothing else. It says nothing about your health and replaces no medical advice.
FAQ
Does it account for tobacco price rises?
No, deliberately. The five-year projection uses today’s price. Since tobacco prices rise steadily in most countries, the real figure will probably be higher than the one shown.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. No amount, no consumption figure and no email address passes through our servers.
I use two different products. What do I do?
Run two calculations and add them up. A multi-product version is planned; we would rather ship a simple tool that works than a complete one that puts people off.
The five-year figure looks enormous. Is it right?
Check the unit price and the daily use you entered: those are the only two variables. The figure is simply your daily spend multiplied by 1,826 days.
